Gear Geek: New Balance Vazee Pace

Jul 15, 2015

Brand New to the 2015 line up Vazee Pace is a Neutral Performance Trainer for a replacement of the previous model 890 (Barringer-Simpson, Badley). Runners now have a new choice to add to the lightweight Zante and Boracay. Continuing to use the latest tech from their performance line the Vazee Pace utilizes the popular Rev-Lite midsole and VL-6 performance last.Carrying the torch of the tempo trainers athletes who found their calling in that shoe will find a similar feel under their foot for quality workouts, in part to the Rev-Lite foam. The difference will be noticed in the fit of the new Upper. The updated no-sew overlay and bootie construction provides the performance feel identical to the Fresh Foam Zante, but in my opinion a much more accommodating toe box. This will allow runners with the fuller foot to enjoy the fit of this shoe without feeling jammed, a benefit for runners who will log longer miles per run in the shoe. The overlays provide enough adjustment to lock the foot securely to the heel and arch with little to no bunching in the material. The long laces allow the adaptive fit, but also feel a bit excessive. Athletes might utilize a runners loop or double knot to prevent the large taping metronome on their foot. The midsole returns with the still responsive Rev-Lite material. The single density foam caters to the firm. The flexibility provided from the deep cut grooves in the forefoot the aggressive toe-spring. The updated outsole pattern give the shoe a poppy feel at high speeds. Although, not as comfortable at slower tempo when contacting closer to the heel. The one piece feels a bit clunky through the transition forward. The inherently stable design will provide a touch of support for runners who have a touch of over-pronation. Athletes looking for a smoother transition should try other models in the line-up. A solid reboot for New Balance, their performance line has been providing some solid footwear choices for runners. Leaving room for some minor tinkering, the best thing about the current 2015 line up is that runners have a range of choices depending on the desired level of cushion, weight, and response of the shoe.
