The 26th edition of the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix saw 11 national indoor records, including three American records in the distance events by Donavan Brazier in the 800m (1:44.21), Bryce Hoppel in the 1000m (2:16.27), and Elinor Purrier in the two-mile (9:10.28).  What was the fourth of six gold-level meetings of the 2021 World Athletics Indoor Tour was held for the first time at the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y., because the event's regular home in Boston, the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center, was converted to a COVID mass-vaccination site.

The third edition of the Big Friendly, dubbed “The Big Friendly 3: Revenge of the Friendly,” went down on Friday night in Portland, Oregon, although the word revenge was not quite fitting as the stars from previous friendlies once again shined.

Boutique track meets are en vogue in 2020 as the normal schedule has been squashed by the pandemic, and on Friday two Nike training groups got together for an old-fashioned dual meet. The so-called "Big Friendly" featured Pete Julian's squad (featuring Donavan Brazer, Craig Engels and Konstanze Klosterhalfen) vs. OTC Elite (featuring Chanelle Price, Vincent Ciattei) in a three-event slate: men's and women's 800m and a men's 1500m.
