2017 FloXC Countdown: #25 Oklahoma State Women
The No. 25 women's spot in our FloXC Countdown goes to Oklahoma State this year, and here's why.
Check out the 2017 FloXC Countdown, where we rank the pre-season top 25 cross country teams and individuals heading into the NCAA season which will be LIVE on FloTrack. The No. 25 women's spot goes to Oklahoma State, and here's why:
SR Molly Sughroue (2:07 800; 4:42 Mile; 16:56 5K; 10:26 3K SC; 88th at '16 NCAA XC)
SR Aurora Dybedokken (4:45 Mile; 9:19 3K; 16:00 5K; 126th at '16 NCAA XC)
SR Abbie Hetherington (2:06 800; 4:22 1500; 178th at '16 NCAA XC)
SO Michelle Magnani (4:48 Mile; 9:39 3K; 16:47 5K; 188th at '16 NCAA XC)
SR Kaylee Dodd (2:03 800; 4:20 1500)
SO Kaitlyn Larson (2:06 800; 4:47 Mile)
SR Gintare Zenkeviciute (9:49 3K; 16:39 5K; 35:31 10K)
Cheyenne Walden via Sand Springs, OK (10:45 3200; 17:32 5K XC; 34th at '16 NXN)
Taylor Somers via Millard, NE (4:57 1600; 10:49 3200; 18:01 5K XC)
Claire Workman via Springfield, MO (4:39 1500; 10:53 3200; 17:54 5K XC)
Led by head coach Dave Smith, the Cowgirls look to be led by an experienced team of returners, but with new incoming freshman talents and lots of depth, there are a number of women who could shake up the projections and improve their standing. Without their superstar athlete in 2016 NCAA mile champ Kaela Edwards (who turned pro with Adidas), OK State will have to rely on that depth to do well on the national stage this year, but it may not prove to be too much of a setback with five of their top seven at NCAAs last year returning -- all but one of them (Michelle Magnani) being seniors. The team impressed with a 17th-place showing at NCAAs last year, and would do very well to approach that in 2017.
