After entering the 2017 NCAA South Central Regional as the heavy favorites, the Arkansas women stormed away with the win and an entry to the NCAA Championships today by placing five runners in the top 12 for a team total of 36 points.

But the most-anticipated women's team battle came down to the vaunted second-place spot, which saw Baylor and Texas duke it out for an automatic qualification.

The Bears' Lindsey Bradley ran a bold race by striking out front early in a tight pack with Arkansas' Carina Viljoen and Nikki Hiltz, and twins Alexandria and Michaela Hackett of Abilene Christian. Anna West moved up later in the race to contest a top-five spot with her teammate Bradley, but it wasn't enough to outscore the Longhorns.

Led by Destiny Collins in 10th, Texas finished with 88 points to Baylor's 119. The rest of their top-five spread included Abby Guidry in 15th, Alex Cruz right behind her in 16th, Meghan Lloyd in 21st, and Abigail Hirst in 26th.

Automatic individual qualifiers included the front-running Bradley, the Hackett sisters and West.

Men's Race

Mirroring the results of the women's contest, the Razorbacks once again showed off their fitness and depth by taking the team title with 59 points, while Texas scored 75 to join them in qualifying for the big dance. Jack Bruce made it to the line first for Arkansas in fifth, followed by Alex George and Austen Dalquist in seventh and eighth, respectively.

Impressively, Texas held two solid contributors, freshmen Sam Worley and Connor O'Neil, from their lineup today and still managed to give Arkansas a bit of a run for their money. Worley and O'Neil finished third and seventh, respectively, at the Big 12 Conference Championships this year to lead the Longhorns, so showing off this kind of strength certainly helps their prospects heading into the NCAA Championships.

Dabbing across the finish line, Emmanuel Rotich punched in at 29:49 to earn his fourth win in a row this season after claiming victory at the Temple University Invitational, Joe Piane Invitational, Pre-Nationals B section, and the American Conference. Other individual qualifiers include Houston's Brian Barraza and Texas A&M's Jon Bishop and Christian Farris.
