The 128th Boston Marathon is April 15 and some of the best runners in the world are heading to Massachusetts to run in one of the most famous marathons in the world. 

Kenyan runner Evans Chebet is attempting to join a small list of runners who have won the marathon three straight years. Last year, he won the marathon with a time of 2 hours and 5:54 minutes. In 2022, he finished the marathon in 2:06:51.

The 35-year-old runner, who also won the New York City Marathon in 2022, has a personal best time of 2:03:00. That happened at the 2020 Valencia Marathon.

Geoffrey Mutai Holds Boston Marathon Record 

The best time ever at the Boston Marathon happened on 2011 when Kenyan runner Geoffrey Mutai ran the marathon in 2:03:02. That mark beat the previous world record by 57 seconds. But since 1990 the Boston Marathon has been ineligible for world records due to the distances between the start and finish being too far away. 

Buzunesh Deba Ran Fastest Women's Boston Marathon Race

In 2014, Buzunesh Deba of Ethiopia ran the fastest Boston Marathon with a time of 2:19:59. Deba, however, was award that win in 2016 after Rita Jeptoo's winning, and record time, of 2:18:57 was disqualified after testing positive for EPO in September 2014.

The race begins at 9 a.m. EST on April 15.

The Boston Marathon is being broadcast on ESPN2 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. EST. The race will also be available on ESPN+ in the United States.

Has Anyone Ever Won The Boston Marathon Three Straight Years?

Yes. The last runner to win the Boston Marathon three years in a row was Robert Kipkoech Cheruiyot of Kenya from 2006-2008. His countrymen Cosmas Ndeti won the marathon from 1993-1995 and American runner Bill Rodgers won the marathon from 1978-1980.
