The 2024 Katie Moon Pole Vault Classic Presented By Nike went down on Saturday, June 8 at Moon’s alma mater, Olmsted Falls High School in Ohio. 

Katie Moon, a 2009 graduate and accomplished scholastic athlete for the Olmsted Falls Bulldogs, electrified her hometown crowd with a 4.73m winning height. The 2020 Olympic Gold Medalist entered the competition at 4.53m and proceeded to decisively clear 4.63m and 4.73m. Moon wrapped up her day with three quality looks at a 4.86m bar. 

Emily Grove, the 2024 Prefontaine Classic champion, continued her torrid recent stretch by taking the runner-up position with a 4.58m clearance. 

Remarkably, following her NCAA Division I title winning effort on Thursday evening in Eugene, Oregon, Chloe Timberg made the cross country journey from the Pacific Northwest to Northeast Ohio to partake in the event. The Rutgers University standout secured 3rd position at 4.53m. 

Notably, Marissa Kalsey scored a big PR, hitting the Olympic Trials qualifying standard. The Keystone State native was ecstatic with her 4.48m outing and now has upcoming travel plans to Eugene, where she’ll mix it up with the rest of the nation’s best.

Among the dignitaries on hand at the venue to take in the action was Chris Nilsen, 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games Silver Medalist. Nilsen visited with us before the event commenced to discuss his current form, as well as his interest in joining the coaching ranks.
