1. Andrew Salvodon Upsets Quincy Wilson En Route To 500m National Record
You couldn't write this up any better for the Bayside (Va.) senior, as the hometown favorite upset one of the greatest high school sprinters in recent history. Andrew Salvodon took down Quincy Wilson, the Bullis School (Md.) junior who represented Team U.S.A. at the Paris Olympics last summer.
Just over 150m into the race, Salvodon surged into the lead and never looked back. Salvodon left the field in the dust to win by two seconds, lowering the 500m national record to 1:00.49, making him the first high schooler to ever run sub-61. He also ran the eighth fastest 500m in US History.
The future South Carolina Gamecock is off to an incredible start in 2025.
2. Lisa Raye Dominates 60m & 200m With Pair Of PBs
Dominantly, the West Warwick (R.I.) senior left Virginia Beach with a pair of statement wins in the 60m and 200m. Lisa Raye was perfect through all three rounds that she ran, ultimately running 7.26 and 23.39 in the finals to successfully fend off several challengers.
In the 60m, Raye cruised to a comfortable win before winning by nearly one second ahead of the field in the 200m. Raye now sits No. 1 in the nation in the 60m and No. 2 in the 200m, just .13 seconds out of the lead. Her performance at The VA Showcase gave her another indoor state record, now totaling five.
3. Bullis, Archbishop Carroll Relays Leave With National Records
Two powerhouse sprint programs went into Virginia Beach on a mission, and both left The VA Showcase with a national record and a ton of well-deserved confidence. Bullis' historic mark came in the Sprint Medley Relay (100, 100, 200, 400), as Connor Salmin, Cameron Homer, Alexander Lambert, and Colin Abrams combined for a blistering time of 3:22.50, besting their record they set a year ago.
The Bulldogs also shattered their national record in the Mixed 4x400m, running 3:22.94, eight seconds under the previous mark. The four history makers were Quincy Wilson, Chrishelle Campbell, Cameron Homer, and Morgan Rothwell.
Just as Bullis broke their national record, the Lions of Archbishop Carroll did the same in the 4x200m. Elijah Amenra, Niles Briggman, Keenen Davis, and Jake Odey-Jordan took .15 seconds off of their record from a year ago, stopping the clock at 1:25.21.
4. Taylor Cox Breaks Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone's New Jersey Record
Not only did the Union Catholic (N.J.) senior win the 55mH at The VA Showcase, but Taylor Cox also broke both the school and state records, dethroning an Olympic champion and world record holder.
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone set a multitude of state and national records during her time at Union Catholic, and Cox entered coveted territory by breaking one of her records. At the 2015 New Balance Nationals Indoor, she ran 7.60 and became the only NJ high school girl under 7.70. Nine years later, Cox enters unprecedented territory of her own, as the only NJ high schooler to run sub-7.60.
Cox also holds the state record in the 60mH after running 8.10 at The VA Showcase, also breaking McLaughlin-Levrone's record.
