At the 2025 New Balance Grand Prix, Wilson challenged the professionals head-on and put on a show.
Up against a trio of elite quarter-milers in Will Sumner (USA), Jereem Richards (TTO), and Zakithi Nene (RSA), Wilson had his work cut out for him.
After the gun, Nene led the quartet through 200m in 21.07, with Wilson back in third at 21.20. Using the experience and tactics he's picked up over the last year, the high school junior made a surge to the front and stopped the clock at 45.66, lowering his indoor PB by a tenth of a second.
Not only did Wilson run the fastest time of his career, but he also broke his own U.S. high school and World U18 indoor records, cementing his status as one of the greatest high school athletes in history.
Wilson finished comfortably ahead of his competitors as Sumner (46.27), Richards (46.49), and Nene (46.56) finished 2-3-4.
The 17-year-old's 400m season debut was extraordinary, and he's just getting started.
