Jayden Horton-Mims Ties Brian Herron's 300m National HS Record

Jayden Horton-Mims has been getting better and better over the 300m distance, and he took another step toward history on Saturday at the 2025 Millrose Games.

In fact, Horton-Mims tied the high school hational record of 32.64 set by Brian Herron in 2018.

Horton-Mims powered out of the blocks with a 11.08 opening 100m. He then surged to a 10.41 second 100m and held strong over the final third of the race, running an 11.16 last bit.

This was his third 300m race of 2025, but his first time breaking 33.00 since the 2024 Millrose Games.

The Philadelphia senior emerged on the national scene last year and hasn't looked back. In 2024, he won the Nike Indoor Nationals 400m title and the PTFCA (PA) state title in the 200m. On the outdoor circuit, he ran a personal best of 45.82 over 400m at the East Coast International Showcase.

He then earned Pennsylvania state titles in the 200m and 400m.

This year, Horton-Mims has primarily specialized in the 300m. Though it is an odd distance, Horton-Mims seems intent on mastering his race craft for the speciality event.

With his tying of the record, we expect to see him in another 300m before the season is over in an attempt to snag the lone record.

Also in the race, Jordaine Johnson (East Orange (NJ)) nearly broke 33.00. He posted a 33.01 and was leading for a bulk of the race. Ja'Neil Harris (High Point (NC)) finished in third with a 33.25.
