Jane Hedengren OBLITERATES HS National 5K Record At 2025 Bryan Clay Invite

Jane Hedengren's unbelievable season continued in a big way on Thursday night at the 2025 Bryan Clay Invitational. Hedengren, lodged in the top section of the 5,000m, obliterated her own HS National 5K Record. She ran 14:57.93 to place third overall.

The senior's time breaks her own HS National All-Conditions record and bests Elizabeth Leachman's outdoor record of 15:25.27.

New Mexico freshman Pamela Kosgei won the race in 14:52.45, the #2 all-time mark in the NCAA, just behind Parker's Valby's 14:52.18 from last year's NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Hedengren's future BYU teammate Lexy Halladay-Lowry finished second (14:52.93) to set a BYU program record.

Hedengren's time would be the current #3 in the NCAA behind Kosgei and Halladay-Lowry.

"I wanted to compete to the best of my ability. I don't get this opportunity very often," Hedengren said after the race.

A BYU commit, Hedengren has been on a tear in 2024-25. This fall she won the Nike Cross Nationals Championship before heading to the indoor circuit and setting high school records in the 5K and Mile. Her 15:13.26 in March won her the Nike Indoor Nationals Championship and set a US U20 Record.

Just last Saturday (April 12), at the Arcadia Invitational Invitational, Hedengren stormed to a 9:34.12 in the invitational two mile, and shattered the previous all-conditions high school record of 9:38.68 set by Mary Cain in 2013.

Hedengren is currently ranked #1 in the 2025 COROS MileSplit50 women's outdoor rankings.
