Masai Russell stunned the crowd in a big way at the Miami Grand Slam in the first race of the day.

Russell soared to a wind-legal 12.17 (+2.0) over the 100m Hurdles, snagging the win, breaking the American Record, and running the second fastest time in World History.

Near perfect racing conditions resulted in the two fastest times in American history as Tia Jones also dipped below the previous record by virtue of her second place finish and 12.19.

The previous record was a 12.20, set by Keni Harrison in 2016. She also held the top three times in American history until today.

Russell, previously had the fourth fastest time with a 12.25 personal best. She ran that mark at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials and then went on to win Olympic Gold in the event, later in the summer.

"These women force you to... it forces you to be your best yourself and it brings the best out of you" Russell said after the race. "I'm just floating on cloud nine right now."

Russell and Jones are also the second and third fastest 100m hurdlers in World History after today. They trail only Tobi Amusan (Nigeria), who set the World Record of 12.12 in 2022.
