Conference Championship Weekend: Parker Wolfe and Madison Whyte Dominate

The latest iteration of conference championship weekend came and went, as title contenders fine-tuned everything heading into regionals with all of the momentum.

1. Parker Wolfe & Ethan Strand (North Carolina)

Two of the greatest distance runners in collegiate history did what they do best and propelled the Tar Heels to the podium. Wolfe, who entered the championships with six ACC titles, defended his 10,000m and 5000m titles from a year ago, running 28:51.09 and 13:13.49, which was both a meet and ACC record. Wolfe became the first person to successfully defend titles in the 10k and 5k, adding even more history to his pair of performances.

Wolfe's training partner Ethan Strand, the indoor 3000m and mile collegiate record holder, did his part, winning the 1500m in 3:44.78, making it a three-peat in the event. Strand's 1500m title was also the fifth to his name. Strand followed that up with a runner-up finish in the 5000m, tallying 18 points total.

Although they couldn't quite catch Duke, the two distance standouts helped Chris Miltenberg's squad finish second in the team scores. They scored 38 of the team's 82 points, nearly accounting for 40% of the UNC's score.

2. Madison Whyte (USC)

After a stellar indoor campaign, the sophomore left Eugene with three top-two finishes in the 200m, 400m, and as the 4x400m anchor leg. In her shortest event of the weekend, Whyte clocked 22.66 to stop the clock, winning the 200m by over a tenth of a second. She followed that up with another B1G title in the 400m, running 51.4 to lead a Trojan 1-2 finish.

To cap off the weekend, Whyte led the Trojans to a win in the 4x400m, splitting a blistering 51.9, the second-fastest split on the anchor leg. She was named the Athlete of the Championships after leading USC to a conference title.

3. James Corrigan (BYU)

After representing the United States at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, Corrigan is getting back to his old ways. At the Big 12 Championships in Lawrence, Kansas, the junior ran 8:22.2 to win the steeplechase, following that up with a dominant win in the 5000m, notching a new PB of 13:25.46. Both performances were Big 12 Championship records and practically secured his spot on the starting line at the West Regional in both events if he decides to contest both.

4. JaMeesia Ford (South Carolina)

At the 2025 SEC Outdoor Championships, the sophomore superstar put everyone on notice as she took care of business, winning the 100m and 200m titles, also helping the 4x100m and 4x400m snag SEC titles in Lexington. In the shorter of the two sprints, Ford ran out-leaned LSU's Tima Godbless at the line, as both women finished with the exact time, 11.055. Ford didn't leave anything up by chance in the 200m final, running a new PB of 22.01 to win by nearly half of a second in the final.

In the 4x100m, Ford anchored the Gamecocks to a near-season best of 42.75 and ran the third leg on the 4x400m that ran 3:24.26 for gold.
