Brazier, now 28, has had a series of ailments and injuries since 2021. In June of 2021 he had surgery to repair a fractured tibia. Then in July of 2022 he had surgery to repair a Haglund's deformity and in 2023 he underwent a follow-up procedure.
In July of 2023, Brazier underwent another surgery on that same leg to address the Haglund's deformity, yet again, according to LetsRun's Jonathan Gault.
Brazier will now set his aim on a return at Toad Fest, his first race since the 2022 World Championships in Eugene. He is expected to race at the Portland Track Festival next week as well.
"For him [Brazier] to come back and his first race in three years is at Toad Fest is truly an honor," said Founder and Meet Director Billy Cvecko. "When I got off of that phone call, I threw my phone on the bed and started screaming... all of the neighbors probably thought I was crazy, but it was the coolest thing."
Cvecko told FloTrack that Craig Engels, who is training partners with Brazier, played a helpful hand in getting him to Toad Fest. Engels is slated to race the 400m as he continues to train for the 800m. He will then return to pace the Boy's Mile.
What Is Toad Fest?
Billy Cvecko launched Toad Fest with the intention of providing Nashville, Tennessee with a fun and community centered meet. This is the inaugural year for Toad Fest, which will be hosted at Brentwood Academy in Nashville, TN.
"The whole mission of our meet is to create fun for the kids," said Cvecko. "We've got sparklers, we've got photo booths, we're going to have some fun announcers, the Tennessee Titans are coming, we're going to have a charity race for children with special needs... it's going to be a truly great day."
