Rome Diamond League Predictions: Five Picks For The Fifth Meeting of 2025

The Stadio Olimpico is set to host a collection of the best athletes in the world this weekend for the Rome Diamond League.

It seems like it was just yesterday that we were looking ahead to the upcoming Diamond League season, and now we're already nearly a third of the way through.

Over the past few weeks, the best of the best have traveled to Asia and Africa so far this season, and many will be checking off 'Europe' after this weekend.

With the professional circuit heating up, we're in store for some potential world-class performances if the weather cooperates.

Here are five of my predictions for the 2025 Rome Diamond League meeting.

Will Cordell Tinch prevail over Daniel Roberts in the 110mH?

Yes, and here's why. Tinch is not only the fastest man in the world this year, but he's one of the most confident men in the sport right now. After two years that saw him come close to representing Team USA, the 24-year-old has a fire lit under him and is racing like it.

Will it be Gudaf Tsegay or Beatrice Chebet to break the tape over 5000m?

At this point you're probably better off flipping a coin instead of listening to me on this one. The one and only time they've met this season was at the Xiamen meeting at the end of April, where Chebet edged out Tsegay by just over a second, 14:27.12-14:28.18.

This time however, the Kenyan and Ethiopian might get stung if they pay little attention to the field around them, especially considering the contingents that Ethiopia and the United States will have toe the line.

Can rising star Mattia Furlani take down two-time defending Olympic champion Miltiadis Tentoglou?

No, but it won't be easy  for Tentoglou. To be clear, Furlani has the world lead of 8.37m, and has close to a four inch lead over the Greek, but that's it. Obviously, the 20-year-old Italian has the potential to do great things over the course of his career, but this is one of the greatest horizontal jumpers in history that we're talkning about.

Tentoglou jumped 8.27m last week in Cyprus, and will more than likely leave Rome with a new SB and a meeting win, which will be just the second competition of his outdoor campaign.

Is Ferdinand Omanyala going to run sub-10 for the first time this season?

If not now, when? The Kenyan sprint sensation has ran sub-10.10 on a handful of occasions this season already (five to be exact), and he's one of the two men to have run 10.00 on the nose. The lanes to his left and right will be filled with some of the fastest men in the world, including Americans Brandon Hicklin, Trayvon Bromell, Fred Kerley, and Courtney Lindsey, who have all gone sub-10 this year.

That being said, the competition and potential will be there, but sub-10 is never promised.

Can Valarie Allman go three for three in her third Diamond League competition in 2025?

With how she's throwing right now, it's near-impossible to bet against her, so I won't

Allman leads an American 1-2-3-4-5 in the world lists this year, one of two women with throws that surpassed 70 meters. The two-time defending Olympic gold medalist has nearly a three meter lead on the rest of the world, with a SB of 73.52 making her hard to catch.

Not only can Allman launch the disc, but she can also adjust to any competition and find a way to get the win. In 2025 alone, she's won all seven meets she's thrown at, most recently snagging the win at the Goldness Oval 2025 in Germany.
