At the 2025 BU Sharon Colyear-Danville Opener, Josh Hoey smashed Donovan Brazier’s six-year-old indoor 600m world record of 1:13.77, clocking a blazing 1:12.84.

His time came within three hundredths of Johnny Gray’s all-conditions world record (1:12.81). Making the moment even more special, Hoey shared it with his brother, Jonah Hoey, who paced the race less than 90 minutes after winning the Invitational 800m.

Hoey split 47.7 through 400m, right on target, before finding another gear in the final 100m to complete the record-breaking run.

“I really wanted to work on my speed endurance,” Josh Hoey said after the race. He also shared how disappointed he was to miss making Team USA at the most recent US Trials, adding that the setback has fueled him heading into this season. “It’s just a pre-season race. We have a lot more to go.”

Hoey’s record came during the inaugural FloTrack’s Night in America elite window, a new 90-minute showcase designed to highlight Boston University’s top races and elevate the viewing experience both in-person and at home.
