Marathon legend Eliud Kipchoge enters the 2026 road racing scene debuting "Eliud's World Tour." Over the next three years, Kipchoge will run seven marathons across the seven continents, with his first stop at the 2026 Sanlam Cape Town Marathon on May 24th.

In the first stop of the World Tour, Kipchoge will race his first race on African soil in South Africa's Cape Town. He will race the defending champion, Ethiopia's Abdisa Tola. With the 2025 running of the race being cancelled due to ____, Tola holds the title as champion after winning the 2024 race in 2:08:15. Tola sports a best time of 2:05:42, set at the 2023 Dubai Marathon.
Kipchoge is considered one of the best marathon runners ever, after being the first human to break the 2-hour barrier in the event. At the 2019 INEOS 1:59 Challenge, Kipchoge, with the help of pacers and wind barriers, ran 1:59.40. While the time was not record-eligible due to the wind blockers, he completed a feat that was previously deemed impossible. Due to his efforts in Austria in 2019, athletes like Sabastian Sawe and Yomif Kejelcha were able to legally complete the accomplishment.
At the 2026 London Marathon, both Sawe and Kejelcha broke the 2-hour barrier in a record-eligible race. Sawe finished first in 1:59.30, and Kejelcha finished in 1:59.41.
Three years after the historic race, Kipchoge set a marathon PR at the 2022 Berlin Marathon in a time of 2:01:09.
From his marathon debut in 2013 to ten years later, Kipchoge went virtually undefeated in the marathon, yielding three losses out of 22 total marathons.
Kipchoge also holds countless accolades in the event, with two Olympic Gold Medals from the 2021 and 2016 Marathons. Back in his track days, he also earned himself a World Championship win in the 2003 5000m.
After proving what is possible in the Marathon, Kipchoge continues to race, watching his records continuously get broken.
Over the next three years, he will foster a new goal in the event, sharing the universal language of the love of running. Traveling to countries where he does not speak the language to work with local communities, spreading the word that humans are not limited.
