The distance races have produced some of the biggest moments of the 2026 AAU Junior Olympic Games, with young athletes continuing to rewrite the record books in Des Moines, Iowa.

One of the meet's standout performances came in the girls 12-year-old 1500m, where Yate Hirbo captured the national title in a record-breaking 4:38.59, breaking Danae Rivers' long-standing national and Junior Olympic record of 4:41.14 that had stood since 2010.

Runner-up Arabelle Allersma also dipped under Rivers' previous mark, finishing in 4:38.90 to make it a historic one-two finish as both athletes erased a record that had lasted for 16 years.

Now, another record-breaking performance has added to an already unforgettable week of distance racing, as the AAU Junior Olympic Games continue to showcase some of the nation's brightest young talent.
