Jakob Ingebrigtsen, Cole Hocker, Ethan Strand Clash Again in Zurich 1500m, Nuguse Joins the Mix

Jakob Ingebrigtsen, Cole Hocker and Ethan Strand clash again in a thrilling Zurich 1500m rematch on August 27, with Yared Nuguse joining the loaded field.

Ethan Strand Takes Down Jakob Ingebrigtsen, Cole Hocker To Win 1500m At Silesia Diamond League 20266:30

The 1500m matchup in Silesia was all that we could’ve hoped for. Jakob Ingebrigtsen made his Diamond League season debut, his first 1500m since the 2025 World Championships, Cole Hocker was in the mix, and Ethan Strand played upset, snagging the win from the field.

Just four days removed, we’ll do it all again - this time in Silesia as those three will return to the Wanda Diamond League Circuit and be joined by Yared Nuguse in Zurich.

US Audiences can watch the Zurich Diamond League meeting on FloTrack starting at 11:30 AM ET on August 26 and 1:15 PM ET on August 27. The Men’s 1500m is set to go off on August 27 at 3:26 PM ET.

In Silesia, a highly anticipated clash between Ingebrigtsen and Cole Hocker dominated the preview conversation, but the field had other plans. American Ethan Strand upset the Olympic and World Champions, taking the win in 3:30.77. Just five-hundredths of a second separated second through fourth, with Phanuel Kipkosgei Koech finishing in 3:31.14, Hocker in 3:31.16, and Ingebrigtsen in 3:31.19.

Joining Strand, Ingebrigtsen, and Hocker in the Zurich rematch is Olympic Bronze medalist Yared Nuguse. Nuguse has been a force on the Diamond League circuit this season, recording two 1500m victories and three runner-up finishes in the Mile. These performances have earned him the top spot in the Diamond League standings with 37 points, qualifying him for the Diamond League Final in Brussels next week. Nuguse owns the third-fastest 1500m this season with a 3:29.36, converted from his 3:45.69 mile at the London Diamond League meeting.

The 1500m field closely resembles the one from Silesia, with 12 athletes returning, including Isaac Nader and Phanuel Kipkosgei Koech. The additions of German National Mile record holder Robert Farken and World Champion Timothy Cheruiyot make the already stacked field even stronger.
