Diamond League Zurich 2026 is almost here! Here are five athletes to watch as they look to make an impact before the Diamond League Final in Brussels.

Diamond League Zurich is the final chance for many of the sport’s biggest stars to earn valuable points and secure their spot in next week’s Diamond League Final in Brussels.

With the stakes high, athletes will be looking to deliver standout performances and make their mark as the Diamond League season nears its conclusion.

The meet takes place Aug. 26-27 in Zurich, Switzerland, with several exciting storylines expected throughout the competition.

Here are five athletes to keep an eye on as Diamond League Zurich gets underway.

Audrey Werro

Audrey Werro made history last week in Lausanne, winning the women’s 800m in a meet-record 1:55.33. The Swiss star edged Femke Bol, who finished second in 1:55.41, to cap off a huge performance on home soil.

Werro will now have another opportunity to compete in front of her home crowd in Zurich. The women’s 800m field will look a little different, however, after Keely Hodgkinson withdrew from the meet, removing one of the biggest names from the event.

With Hodgkinson out, Werro has an even bigger opportunity to make her mark in Zurich and build on her Lausanne performance. With the Diamond League Final in Brussels next week, she'll be looking to carry that momentum into the final meet before the season finale.

Masai Russell

Masai Russell continued her impressive 2026 season in Lausanne, winning the women’s 100m hurdles in a meet-record 12.42. The American has been one of the standout hurdlers on the Diamond League circuit and added another impressive performance to her season with the win.

Now, Russell heads to Zurich with a chance to capitalize on that momentum in the final Diamond League meet before the Final in Brussels. After setting the meet record in Lausanne, she’ll be looking to deliver another strong performance and remind the field why she’s one of the athletes to watch heading into the season finale.

The Men's 1500m Field

The men’s 1500m is shaping up to be one of the most highly anticipated races in Zurich, with a stacked field featuring Jakob Ingebrigtsen, Cole Hocker, Ethan Strand and Yared Nuguse. With four major names lining up, this could easily be one of the biggest races of the meet.

Strand shocked the field in Silesia last weekend, winning the 1500m in 3:30.77 while much of the attention was on Ingebrigtsen. Ingebrigtsen finished fourth in 3:31.19, while Hocker crossed the line third in 3:31.16. Now, the three will meet again with Nuguse joining the mix.

Nuguse brings plenty of experience to an already loaded field. The American is a six-time Diamond League meeting winner and won the 1500m in Rabat earlier this season in 3:30.35. With so much talent in one race, Zurich could provide another memorable 1500m showdown before the Diamond League Final in Brussels.

Melissa Jefferson-Wooden

Melissa Jefferson-Wooden enters Zurich as the woman to beat after taking down a star-studded 100m field in Silesia last weekend. The world champion ran a season-best 10.78 to defeat Olympic champion Julien Alfred, who finished second in 10.83, while Sha’Carri Richardson placed third in 10.96.

The win was especially significant because it ended Alfred’s unbeaten run in the 100m and gave Jefferson-Wooden another statement victory against some of the biggest names in the event. Now, the three sprinters will meet again in Zurich for another highly anticipated showdown.

After delivering one of the biggest performances in Silesia, Jefferson-Wooden will look to continue her winning streak in Zurich. With the Diamond League Final in Brussels approaching, she has another opportunity to prove she belongs among the biggest names in the women’s 100m.

Alison Dos Santos

Alison Dos Santos and Karsten Warholm have developed one of the biggest rivalries in the 400m hurdles, and the two will meet again in Zurich. While Warholm still owns the world record at 45.94, Dos Santos currently holds the fastest time in the world this year.

Dos Santos strengthened that claim in Silesia last weekend, running a world-leading 46.43 to defeat Warholm, who finished in 46.52. It was another chapter in their rivalry, with Dos Santos getting the better of the world-record holder once again.

Now, the two will battle again in Zurich with another opportunity to settle the score. Dos Santos will look to maintain his edge over Warholm, while the world-record holder will be looking to turn the tables before the Diamond League Final in Brussels.
