The TCS Sydney Marathon, kicks off this week starting on August 29th, 4:30 pm ET. This is Sydney’s second year as an Abbott World Marathon Major.

The event will feature elite level athletes, a gorgeous route through Sydney Australia, and is on track to raise over $11M for charity.

When Does The Sydney Marathon Start?

For U.S. viewers, the full length marathon begins at Aug. 29th, 4:30 pm ET.

The elite wheelchair athlete group will begin at 4:15pm ET.

Where Is The Sydney Marathon Streaming?

Notable Male Elite Runners: 

Sisay Lemma (Ethiopia)

Sisay Lemma is a Boston Marathon Champion and London Marathon champion, both of which are official Abbott World Marathon Majors. Lemma is attending the Sydney Marathon this week as the fastest man on paper. His personal record of 2:01:48 will be the time everyone is looking to beat.

Alphonce Simbu (Tanzania)

Alphonce Simbu is entering this race with a chip on his shoulder. Simbu was the runner up of both 2025 and 2026 Boston Marathons. Perhaps the motivation to overcome runner-up status can give Simbu the edge this year at the Sydney Marathon.

Hailemaryam Kiros (Ethiopia)

Kiros emerged victorious within the elite men’s field last year in Sydney's 2025 marathon. He also set the tone and smashed the previous course record. Kiros will be in Sydney this weekend to defend this throne.

Notable Elite Female Runners: 

Peres Jepchirchir (Kenya)

Jepchirchir is the fan-favorite of the women’s race. She is an elite talent. Jepchirchir took home Gold in the women’s marathon in the 2020 Tokyo Games. She also holds the title of Champion of the 2020 Half Marathon Championships. 

Irene Chepet Cheptai (Kenya)

Cheptai is another top female talent hailing out of Kenya. Cheptai was awarded the gold medal in the 2017 World Cross Country Championships, and recently enjoyed a podium finish at the 2024 Chicago Marathon. She will be attending the TCS Sydney Marathon this week. 

Stella Chesang (Uganda)

Chesang represented Uganda at the 2016 Rio Olympics, as well as the 2018 Commonwealth games, where she took home the gold medal. This weekend, she looks to outshine Jepchirchir and Cheptai.

Notable Elite Male Para Division Athletes:

David Weir: (Great Britain): 

David Weir is one of the most recognized wheelchair athletes in the world. He boasts six Gold medals from within the Paralympics, and holds titles and awards for many other major events. He is making his debut in the Sydney Marathon this year. Definitely a name to keep an eye on. 

Daniel Romanchuk (United States)

All Daniel Romanchuk does is win, and he is one of the world's top wheelchair racers. He won the men's 400-meter T54 event at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games and the men's 5,000-meter T54 event at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. He has also won the New York City Marathon three times. Make sure to keep track of Romanchuk during the marathon.

Notable Elite Female Para Division Athletes:

Manuela Schär (Switzerland)

Manuela Schär is one of the most decorated wheelchair athletes in the sport. She made history by becoming the first athlete to win all six of the original Abbott World Marathon Majors races in a single series. She completed the sweep in 2019.

Now, with the Abbott World Marathon Majors expanding to eight races following the addition of Sydney and Cape Town, Schär has another chance to make history. She won the 2026 Sanlam Cape Town Marathon in May, earning a provisional Cape Town Major star that was later upgraded when Cape Town officially joined the AbbottWMM series. A victory in Sydney would make Schär the first athlete to win all eight Abbott World Marathon Majors races.

Madison de Rozario (Australia)

The city of Sydney is cheering on their hometown hero, Madison de Rozario. Rozario is an incredibly accomplished Australian para-athlete and was awarded two Gold medals in the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics and took home silver in the 2024 Paris Paralympic Women’s Marathon. With the city behind her, she will be looking to beat out Schär and the other top talents.
