It’s officially the biggest week of the Diamond League season, when the top track and field athletes in the world will meet at the 2026 Wanda Diamond League Brussels.
Through the Diamond League circuit, there’s been multiple key battles to watch in the standings. While some competitions have had a dominant leader throughout the season, others have seen athletes move back-and-forth in the Diamond League standings.

There’s five competitions in particular featuring point battles between two athletes at the top of the standings that stand out. Here are the five matchups to watch at the Diamond League Final.

Men’s 100m - Oblique Seville (23 Points) vs. Gift Leotlela (23 Points)
Oblique Seville has performed at a high-level in his Diamond League appearances, finishing in first, second and first in his three events in 2026.
Gift Leotlela has competed at more Diamond League events but has been more inconsistent. A first place finish at Diamond League Shanghai later followed by a fifth place finish at Diamond League London has led to Leotlela finishing with 23 points and tied at first in the standings.
How will the matchup between Seville and Leotlela play out in Brussels? Can either of them win their first career Diamond League Final?
Men’s Pole Vault - Armand Duplantis (38 Points) vs. Kurtis Marschall (37 Points)
The No. 1 and No. 3 ranked men’s pole vaulters in the world finished nearly identical at the top of the 2026 Diamond League standings.
Armand Duplantis has won the Diamond League Final in five consecutive years, but he’s neck and neck with Kurtis Marschall at the top of the standings.
Marschall beat Duplantis at Diamond League Stockholm, who’s to say he can’t do it again in Brussels
Men’s 400m Hurdles - Karsten Warholm (36 Points) vs. Alison Dos Santos (32 Points)
Karsten Warholm and Alison Dos Santos have been the clear favorites throughout the 2026 Diamond League season, with the two combining for either first or second place in every event they’ve competed in.
Unfortunately for Warholm, Dos Santos has gotten the best of him throughout the season, but competing at one additional event places the Norwegian sprinter at one spot higher in the Diamond League standings.
The races between them have been mostly close. Will Dos Santos continue his winning streak or can Warholm break through and win his fourth Diamond League Final?
Women’s 1500m - Birke Haylom (24 Points) vs. Jessical Hull (23 Points)
Birke Haylom has been the top runner in the women’s 1500m all season long. Her two first place finishes in four events are the most of anybody in the season.
However, Jessica Hull is just one point behind Haylom in the rankings, and the Australian is coming off a season-best performance at Diamond League Silesia with a 3:55.20.

Women’s High Jump - Yaroslava Mahuchikh (28 Points) vs. Eleanor Patterson (26 Points)
Yaroslava Mahuchikh has been the most dominant women’s high jumper this season with two first place finishes, including a recent 2.00m jump at Diamond League Silesia.
Mahuchikh is the favorite to win her fourth Diamond League Final, but Eleanor Patterson finished with strong performances of her own throughout the circuit, including a 1.98m jump in Silesia.
