Jakob Ingebrigtsen has withdrawn from Sunday’s 1500m final at the World Athletics Ultimate Championships in Budapest.

Jakob Ingebrigtsen has withdrawn from Sunday’s 1500m final at the World Athletics Ultimate Championships in Budapest, ending hopes of a highly anticipated rematch with Josh Kerr.

“Unfortunately, I'm not in a position where I'm able to go back to back races,” Ingebrigtsen said.

The decision comes after a challenging two years that included Achilles surgery. Ingebrigtsen has returned to championship form this season, winning the European 5000m title before adding 5000m gold at World Ultimates.

But the Norwegian said he is not yet ready to race back-to-back finals at the highest level.The withdrawal means his next potential meeting with Kerr will have to wait until 2027.
