2026 Chicago Marathon Preview Show13:51

The 2026 Chicago Marathon delivered record-setting performances across all four professional races, with athletes rewriting the record books in both wheelchair events and the professional fields.

Switzerland’s Marcel Hug and Catherine Debrunner set new benchmarks, while Kenya’s Amos Kipruto and Ethiopia’s Hawi Feysa claimed the men’s and women’s professional titles, respectively.

Hug won the men’s wheelchair race in 1:21:34, breaking his own course record from 2023 by 1 minute, 3 seconds.

Debrunner shattered her own women’s wheelchair marathon world record, finishing in 1:33:16. Her time took a full minute off her previous record of 1:34:16, set at the 2023 Berlin Marathon.

Kipruto won the men’s professional race in 2:01:09, setting a 30-second personal best. His time ranks second in Chicago Marathon history and ties him for fifth on the world all-time list, matching Eliud Kipchoge’s fastest record-eligible marathon performance. American Clayton Young finished seventh overall in a personal-best 2:05:23, becoming the top American finisher and the second-fastest American marathoner in history. Despite battling a significant hamstring injury, Young mounted a bid for the American record but finished 40 seconds short of Conner Mantz’s mark.

Feysa defended her women’s professional title in 2:13:33, setting a personal best to claim her second consecutive Chicago Marathon victory. Her time moves her to fourth on the women’s world all-time list. Emma Grace Hurley was the top American woman, finishing seventh overall in 2:20:47 in her marathon debut.
