From the Dallas Marathon Relays to the Hoosier Open, athletes threw down standout performances during the week of December 7-13. Here are the athletes that made the cut for this weekÂ’s FloAwards:

Flo Team

Abdi Abdirahman and Deena Kastor
The Olympic marathon duo claimed the team victory at the Duo to Rio Relay at the Marathon Relays in Dallas, Texas. Abdirahman ran the first leg, a half marathon in 1:04:04, which put him in fourth-place position behind Sam Chelanga, Jared Ward, and Luke Puskedra. He handed off to Kastor who ran the second half of the marathon distance in a split of 1:15:42, which ultimately earned the team win for the pair as Kastor out-ran Becky Wade, Molly Huddle, Annie Bersagel and Desi Linden for the victory.

Galen Rupp (Nike Oregon Project)

Rupp surprised track audiences when he entered a low-key, local Portland half marathon and won the race in 1:01:20, which gave him an Olympic Marathon Trials-qualifying time. The performance was the Olympic silver medalistÂ’s second attempt at the distance. He ran 1:00:30 at the 2011 New York City Half Marathon. After the race, Rupp told Oregon LiveÂ’s Ken Goe that he would keep his options open in regards to running the Olympic Marathon Trials.

Garrett Heath (Brooks Beasts)
In classic middle-distance runner strategy, Heath threw down a massive kick with 400m remaining at the Club Cross Country Championships to claim the 10K victory over Jonathan Grey in San Francisco. Heath was running with the leader for a majority of the contest until he lost ground near 7K into SaturdayÂ’s race. The gap became irrelevant after Heath blew by the Boulder Track Club athlete for the victory. Heath broke the tape in a winning time of 29:06, marking the BeastÂ’s second cross country victory in 2015 after claiming the win at the Great Edinburgh meet last January.

Amy Van Alstine (NAZ Elite)
Another stunning kick came from Van Alstine who executed a successful final effort to beat defending Club Cross Champion Laura Thweatt in the womenÂ’s race. After battling injuries on and off for a portion of the 2015 season, Van AlstineÂ’s victory was met with great excitement. Her winning time of 19:49 was just one second ahead of Boulder Track ClubÂ’s Thweatt, who made her debut in the marathon just six weeks prior. Van AlstineÂ’s major cross country victory prior to SaturdayÂ’s performance was at the 2014 USATF Cross Country Championships where she out-kicked World 1500m Champion Jenny Simpson for the win.

Drew Hunter (Loudoun Valley High School)
In the most dominant win since 2011, Hunter claimed the Foot Locker Cross Country Championship in a winning time of 14:55, 12 seconds ahead of runner-up Phillip Rocha. Hunter left nothing to chance as the Virginia native clocked a 4:31 opening mile to position himself ahead of the pack. That 6.5-second lead grew for the next two miles of the race as Hunter ran his way to a blowout victory Saturday in Balboa Park. His “head down and keep plugging away” strategy, as he said in a MileSplit post-race interview, proved to be the most successful of the day as the future Oregon Duck ran his way into Foot Locker history.

Weini Kelati (Heritage High School)
The Eritrean-born senior made a vast improvement from last yearÂ’s Foot Locker Championships after out-running Maryjeanne Gilbert for the victory Saturday in San Diego. In 2014, Kelati finished 20th and was unable to contend with heavy-hitters Anna Rohrer and Ryen Frazier, but 2015 was a different story as Kelati put herself in winning position from the gun. Running alongside Nevada Mareno and Gilbert, Kelati was able to hold off both challengers until she broke the tape in 17:09, just one second ahead of Gilbert in a wire-to-write victory.

Flo Runner

William Kincaid (Portland)
In an early season indoor track showdown, the Portland All American out-kicked Northern ArizonaÂ’s Futsum Zienasellassie for the 5K victory in 13:44 at the Hoosier Open Friday night. Both athletes did not compete in cross country this fall, so the race was a much-anticipated test of fitness for both distance runners. After finishing fifth at the NCAA Outdoor Championships last June, KincaidÂ’s senior track season is poised for more break-throughs. KincaidÂ’s performance is an indoor and outdoor 5K personal best and is currently the fastest menÂ’s indoor 5K time run in the world for the 2015-16 season.
