Peter Callahan's FloTrack Throwdown Mile Victory
Unsponsored Peter Callahan threw down the upset of the FloTrack Throwdown when he ran 3:58 in the mile to defeat hometown favorite Galen Rupp. The former Princeton Tiger/New Mexico Lobo was coming off back-to-back fourth-place finishes in the NCAA 1500m heading into the Throwdown. The featured race looked to be a showdown between Rupp and David Torrence. However, the fresh post collegiate runner managed to shock the crowd with his blistering kick to win. CallahanÂ’s kick gave us flash backs to his similar fast finish that secured his Princeton teamÂ’s 2013 NCAA Championship in the distance medley relay. CallahanÂ’s win was an upset to remember, because itÂ’s not everyday you defeat a 3:50 miler in the mile.
