Ataja Stephane-Vazquez of Daniels High Performance took the reigns of the 17-18 women's 400m dash semifinals Friday by setting a national record.

Stephane-Vazquez clocked a time of 52.33 seconds to beat second-place Kamryn Tatum by over a second. The time was a personal record, and she'll take it with her to the final round, set for Saturday. 

As the last two days of the AAU Junior Olympics continue, Stephane-Vazquez's record is one of plenty of meet records being claimed by young athletes across the board.
