Today - Clayton Young announced that he will make an attempt at the American Marathon Record at the 2026 Chicago Marathon next month.
On today's episode of Nobody Asked Us, Clayton Young told cohosts Des Linden and Kara Goucher that he will take his shot at the mark that Conner Mantz set at the 2025 rendition, 2:04:43.

Mantz happens to be Young's training partner, which makes the storyline ever-so more enticing.
Young has consistently been one of the nation's best marathoners over the last few years.
Back in 2024, Young finished second at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials before finishing ninth at the Paris Olympic Games and as the second American. Then in New York in 2024, Young finished seventh.
In 2025, Young ran 2:07:04 for seventh at the Boston Marathon. Later in the year, he finished ninth at the Tokyo World Championships and as the top American.
Then, Young ran the 2026 Boston Marathon and set his new personal best of 2:05:41 to finish 11th.
Young last ran in Chicago in 2023. On that day, he finished seventh with a 2:08:00.
Because Boston is not a records eligible course, Young does not sit on the official all-time list. He is however sixth on the All-Conditions list.
As a brand, Brooks Running has not turned away from Record Attempt, instead leaning into them. Earlier this year, Brooks partnered with Josh Kerr for Project 222, that saw Kerr break the Mile World Record.
