#2 | Female Athlete of 2015
No other American was more dominant than Molly Huddle in 2015.
Yes we mentioned her medal-missing 10K race from Beijing as a heartbreak, but we never overlooked her nearly flawless calendar year.
Huddle opened up her year with a 68:31 half marathon victory in the United Airlines NYC Half on March 16, the fastest American performance of the year.
She then won the BAA 5K in 14:50, No. 1 U.S. all-time, won the USATF Outdoor Championship 10K in 31:39 and nearly won the London Diamond League 5K after a courageous race.
Her fourth-place finish in the 10K is her best world finish ever, and though she just missed earning bronze, HuddleÂ’s fitness only continued to show throughout the fall road racing season. She went on to win five U.S. road racing titles (20K, 5K, 10 mile, 10K, 12K) throughout September, October and November, with wins over Olympians Shalane Flanagan, Kim Conley and the distance runners in the U.S.
HuddleÂ’s fall season is the perfect example of turning a disappointing end into the ultimate comeback, demonstrated by her domination in each of her five road wins. With 2016 on the horizon, Huddle will contend for her first Olympic medal.
