Yesterday, Lincoln previewed the men’s track races for the NCAA Indoor Championships. Today, I’ll look at the women’s side.

Every U.S. Championship meet with a team on the line produces under-the-radar names who, against all odds, defy projections to earn a coveted spot at a global championship. The emergence of previously unheralded athletes is one of the best features of USAs, and upsets are bound to occur en masse in a season as atypical as this one.

The NCAA Championships are in the rearview, but many of the top stars from that meet will run it back at this week's NACAC U18 and U23 Championships in Mexico. The strong fields, and the high elevation of the host city Queretaro, should produce fast times and create a nice post-script on the college season. 

The mixed zone at the NCAA Championships spanned the gamut of emotions. There were tears, shock, celebrations and even some signing. You can check out the whole archive of interviews here. For this post, I highlighted a few of my favorites. 

After the Razorback and the Lady Trojans entered the final event tied with 56 points each, Arkansas cruised to the 2019 Division I NCAA Outdoor team title as disaster struck USC on Anna Cockrell's third leg, causing her to stumble and drop the baton.

A lot is riding on the women’s sprints in Austin. With No. 1 Arkansas and No. 2 USC entrusting much of their team chances to these events, whoever comes out on top in the bounty of head-to-head matchups in the sprints is likely to win it all on Saturday. USC is loaded in the 100m and 200m with NCAA champs Twanisha Terry and Angie Annelus leading the way, respectively, while Arkansas will counter with the best high hurdler in the country, Janeek Brown. Brown can also fly in the 200m, as her 22.47 puts her within striking distance of defending champion Annelus.

Today marks the second and final day of competition at the 2019 NCAA Indoor Championships, and FloTrack is on site in Birmingham, Alabama, to bring you all the latest news from the Crossplex. 

The track world says farewell today to Hayward Field. The venerable venue that has stood for 99 years is set for demolition in the coming weeks. But before it is replaced by the new stadium that will host the 2021 World Championships, there is one more day of the 2018 NCAA Championships. The women's finals will have a tough time living up to the show that the men put on yesterday, but if this season is an indication, the collegians are capable of a level of one-upmanship that has led to shattered records and dramatic races.
